Srinagar recorded its hottest day of the season on Saturday, with the maximum temperature touching 35.9°C, making it hotter than Jammu, which recorded 35°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir from July 19 to 23, with widespread rain and thundershowers. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Kashmir from July 21 to 23, while Jammu division could receive heavy to very heavy rain between July 20 and 23.
The IMD has warned of possible flash floods, landslides, mudslides, cloudburst-like events, and a rise in water levels of rivers and streams. Several mountain routes, including the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, may face disruptions due to landslides and shooting stones.
The Meteorological Department said the ongoing heatwave is likely to ease from Sunday as rain-bearing weather systems move into the region. Authorities have advised residents, tourists and commuters to monitor weather updates and avoid travel to landslide-prone areas during the forecast period.
