Jammu and Kashmir Police have enhanced security preparedness for the annual Amarnath Yatra by deploying advanced surveillance and screening equipment to ensure the safety of pilgrims at various yatra camps across the Union Territory.
Officials said the security wing of the police has been equipped with a range of modern gadgets for access control, surveillance and anti-sabotage operations during the pilgrimage.
The equipment includes portable RCIED jammers, deep search metal detectors, explosive and liquid explosive detectors, non-linear junction detectors (NLJDs), contraband busters, vehicle search mirrors, optical fibrescopes, multi-type CCTV systems, XBIS scanners, vehicle-mounted XBIS units, multi-zone door frame metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors and other specialised security devices.
To review operational readiness, a physical inspection and live demonstration of the equipment was conducted at Security Lines Kashmir under the supervision of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Security, Sujit Kumar Singh.
According to a police spokesperson, the exercise showcased the capabilities of the gadgets in strengthening access control, surveillance, screening and anti-sabotage measures at yatra locations.
The spokesperson said the Security Wing remains committed to ensuring a safe, secure and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees undertaking the annual pilgrimage, which is scheduled to commence on July 3.
