The Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned the chiefs of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Delhi Police Commissioner to look into the material furnished by lawyer Utsav Bains claiming there was a conspiracy behind framing Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi in a sexual harassment case.
The top court said that further hearing in the matter will be held at 3 p.m. today.
The decision was taken after a three-judge bench-Justice Arun Mishra, Justice Rohinton F Nariman and Justice Deepak Gupta perused certain documents submitted by advocate Utsav Bains in a sealed cover.
Chief Justice Gogoi has strongly denied the allegations by a former Supreme Court employee and said the independence of the judiciary is “under threat”.
The Chief Justice has said the allegations had surfaced because he was to hear important cases in the Supreme Court in the coming days. Moreover, he said the woman who made the allegations against him has a criminal background.
