The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court over the Hathras incident, saying the court must direct a CBI investigation into the matter.
In its affidavit, the state government also requested the Top Court to monitor the CBI investigation into the case, alleging that “vested interests are attempting to ascribe motive to derail a fair probe”.
The Yogi-Adityanath government also said that a CBI probe in the case will ensure no vested interests will be able to create a fake, false narrative with oblique motives.
The affidavit said that the district administration convinced the parents of the victim to cremate her in the middle of the night to avoid large-scale violence in the morning.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath had earlier suspended Hathras Superintendent of Police (SP) and four other police officials over their handling of the incident based on the preliminary report submitted by the SIT investigating the case.
