The Supreme Court on Monday said that remarks made by Rahul Gandhi on the Rafale case were “incorrectly attributed” to the top court and demanded an explanation from him by April 22.
The petition was filed by BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi over Rahul’s remarks.
Appearing for Meenakshi Lekhi, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi told the court that Congress president made a remark that the “Apex Court had upheld that ‘chowkidar chor hai’ in the verdict in Rafale review delivered on April 10.
Seeking response from Rahul Gandhi on his controversial statement, Chief Justice Gogoi said, “We also make it clear that this court never made such observation. We only decide on the admissibility of certain documents related to the Rafale case.
“Having clarified the matter, we deem it appropriate to seek explanation of the Congress President,” the bench said.
The court will hear the matter on April 23.
