The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant protection from arrest to newly elected Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP from Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Atul Rai.
Rai is facing charges of allegedly raping a college student from Varanasi.
A top Court vacation bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Aniruddha Bose said that it was not inclined to look into the petition to grant him relief from arrest.
Earlier, the apex court had refused to grant Rai interim protection from arrest.
On May 1, an FIR was registered against the BSP leader on a complaint by a college student, accusing the MP of taking her to his home on the pretext of introducing her to his wife but sexually assaulted her.
