Rishi Kumar Shukla took charge as new CBI Director on Monday.
A 1983-batch IPS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Shukla was appointed on Saturday, weeks after controversial removal of Alok Verma from the post.
He has been appointed as CBI chief for a fixed tenure of two years.
Earlier he was working as the chairman of Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation.
The post of CBI chief was lying vacant since January 10 after the ouster of Alok Verma.
Shukla’s appointment came a day after the Supreme Court on Friday said it was “averse” to the arrangement of an interim CBI Director and the Centre should “immediately” appoint a regular Director of probe agency.
M Nageswara Rao was working as the interim CBI director after the ouster of Alok Verma.
