US President Donald Trump used his first United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) address of his second term to target India and launch a scathing attack on the UN. \u201cChina and India are funding the war in Ukraine. Some NATO nations are also doing this. Some European nations are purchasing oil from Russia and fighting it. It\u2019s embarrassing,\u201d Trump declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casting himself as a global peacemaker, Trump claimed he has ended \u201cseven unendable wars\u201d in just seven months of his second term. \u201cPeople told me these conflicts could never be solved,\u201d he said, listing disputes he claimed to have settled: Cambodia\u2013Thailand, DR Congo\u2013Rwanda, Pakistan\u2013India, Israel\u2013Iran, Egypt\u2013Ethiopia, and Armenia\u2013Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI ended seven wars, dealt directly with the leaders of each country, and never even received a call from the UN offering to help finalize the deals,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWhat is the purpose of the UN? All they seem to do is write strongly worded letters and never follow up. Empty words don\u2019t solve wars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The White House had earlier billed Trump\u2019s UNGA speech as \u201cmajor,\u201d with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying the president would highlight the \u201crenewal of American strength around the world\u201d and tout \u201chistoric accomplishments in just eight months.\u201d She added that Trump would outline a \u201cstraightforward and constructive vision\u201d for global peace, while criticizing \u201cglobalist institutions that have decayed the world order.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the sidelines of the UNGA, Trump is scheduled to hold high-profile bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Argentina\u2019s leadership, and top EU officials. According to reports, Zelenskyy is expected to push Trump for tougher sanctions on Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This marks Trump\u2019s fifth address to the UNGA, and his first since returning to the White House for a second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is also expected to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, raising concerns in New Delhi over Washington\u2019s growing closeness to Islamabad.
