{"id":355547,"date":"2025-08-06T15:51:58","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T10:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=355547"},"modified":"2025-08-06T15:51:59","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T10:21:59","slug":"india-saw-significant-increase-in-export-of-electronic-goods-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/india-saw-significant-increase-in-export-of-electronic-goods-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"India saw significant increase in export of electronic goods: Govt"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" src=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2024\/06\/BJP-to-retain-Lok-Sabha-Speakers-post.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-348996\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lok Sabha on Wednesday informed that there has been a significant increase in the production and export of electronic goods over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministry of electronics and information technology was responding to a question from Congress MP Geniben Nagaji Thakor on steps taken by the government to boost domestic electronics manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a written reply, Minister of State for Electronics And Information Technology, Jitin Prasada stated that value addition for electronics manufacturing in India has increased substantially over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been a six to eight times increase in the production and export of electronic goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring 2014-15 the country saw Rs 1.9 lakh crore production which later increased six times to 11.3 lakh crore during 2024-2025. Similarly, the export of electronic goods was at Rs 38 thousand crore which stood at 3.27 lakh crore. Eight times increase during 2024-25,\u201d the minister stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the document, the country had only two mobile manufacturing units in the country which increased to 300 in 2025, a 150 times increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe export of mobile phones has witnessed a 127 times increase as it reached 2 lakh crore in 2025 from 1500 crore in 2014,\u201d the minister added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPLI Scheme has significantly boosted investment, production, exports, and job creation in India\u2019s electronics sector. India has transformed itself from a net importer to a net exporter of mobile phones, and is now the second largest mobile manufacturing country in the world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministry also informed that over four billion dollars Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) was received in the field of electronics manufacturing in the last five years. Nearly 70 per cent of this FDI is contributed by the beneficiaries of the PLI Scheme, the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, informing about the Semiconductor programme, the ministry said, the government has approved six major projects under the Semicon India Programme to build and grow the semiconductor and display industry in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese projects involve a total investment of over Rs 1.55 lakh crore.
