{"id":351122,"date":"2024-11-19T01:01:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-19T06:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=351122"},"modified":"2024-11-19T05:19:36","modified_gmt":"2024-11-19T10:49:36","slug":"nc-led-jk-government-flaunts-special-status-statehood-resolutions-on-completing-one-month-in-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/nc-led-jk-government-flaunts-special-status-statehood-resolutions-on-completing-one-month-in-power\/","title":{"rendered":"NC-led J&#038;K Government flaunts special status, statehood resolutions on completing one month in power"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"655\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2024\/11\/NC-led-JK-Government-flaunts-special-status.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-351123\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2024\/11\/NC-led-JK-Government-flaunts-special-status.jpg 655w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2024\/11\/NC-led-JK-Government-flaunts-special-status-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 655px) 100vw, 655px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The resolutions calling for restoration of special constitutional status and statehood figured as top achievements as the National Conference-led J&amp;K coalition government completed its first month in power on November 18.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tanvir Sadiq, the party\u2019s chief spokesman said the two resolutions were the fulfillment of the party\u2019s manifesto.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn line with our party\u2019s manifesto, Omar Abdullah-led government passed a resolution on special status in J&amp;K Assembly and another on statehood in the cabinet in the first month itself,\u201d Sadiq said. \u201cOmar Sahab went to Delhi to present the statehood resolution to prime minister Narendra Modi who has given a favourable response\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other achievements that Sadiq outlined were the restoration of the annual exam session for Class 1-9 back in November&nbsp; and the relaxation in age eligibility to youth for applying for government jobs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On November 6, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed a resolution urging the central government to engage with regional representatives to restore the special status that was revoked in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resolution, introduced by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, reasserted the significance of the former special provisions, emphasizing their role in preserving the region\u2019s identity, culture, and rights. The resolution also highlighted that any discussions on restoration should balance national unity with the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier on October 18, the cabinet passed a resolution urging the central government to restore statehood for the union territory. Following day, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha cleared the resolution. The CM traveled to New Delhi to handover the draft of the resolution to the Prime Minister and urged him to reinstate statehood as it existed before August 4, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to congratulate the people of J&amp;K for their mandate they gave to the National Conference.
