The Direct Sell\u00ading Industry in Punj\u00adab has crossed Rs 500 crore mark, for the first time, regist\u00adering a decent year-\u00adon-year growth of ar\u00adound 6%, with the st\u00adate\u2019s gross turnover crossed Rs 523 crore in 2019-20 accordi\u00adng to the Annual Survey report released by the Indian Dire\u00adct Selling Associati\u00adon (IDSA) here today.<\/p>\n
Punjab is one of the largest Direct Sell\u00ading markets in the Northern region. Stat\u00ade\u2019s Direct Selling turnover has increased by almost 25% in the last 4 years, whi\u00adch is an indication that the business mo\u00addel is getting popul\u00adar among the masses. Currently, close to 1.5 lakh people actively participated in Direct Selling in the state, earning sustainable income through self-employm\u00adent opportunities, the report said.<\/p>\n
While addressing the media, Vivek Katoch, Treasurer, IDSA sa\u00adid, \u201cWe are thankful to the government of Punjab for notifyi\u00adng the Direct Selling Guidelines last ye\u00adar, which brought ab\u00adout a regulatory cla\u00adrity for the business model in the state. We would also li\u00adke to thank\u200b Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Minis\u00adter for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Government of Punjab for unders\u00adtanding the industry concern with earlier version of the Gui\u00addelines and making some much-needed amen\u00addments in the Punjab Direct Selling Gu\u00adidelines. We extend our gratitude to the Punjab government for its solution-orie\u00adnted approach and ta\u00adking a positive step towards ease of doi\u00adng business\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Direct Selling industry has been pro\u00adviding sustainable self-employment and start-up opportunities to millions of peo\u00adple in the country including the state of Punjab. Direct Sel\u00adling has also become a significant source of income, especia\u00adlly for the youth and women in the sta\u00adte. The industry also contributed over INR 60 crore by way of taxes to the state exchequer.<\/p>\n
Chetan Bhardwaj, Gen\u00aderal Manager, IDSA made a detailed prese\u00adntation on various aspects of the Direct Selling industry and expressed gratitude to the Department of Food, Civil Suppl\u00adies & Consumer Affai\u00adrs for inducting IDSA as a \u2018Subject Matt\u00ader\u2019 expert in the state Monitoring Com\u00admittee. \u201cIt is indeed a privilege to be part of the monitori\u00adng process and IDSA will extend all its expertise and support to further strengt\u00adhen the regulatory mechanism of Direct Selling business in Punjab,\u201d added Chetan.<\/p>\n
The Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs had notified the Dir\u00adect Selling Guidelin\u00ades in November 2020 to further strengthen the regulatory mec\u00adhanism of Direct Sel\u00adling in the state. The Punjab Guidelines have mandated formi\u00adng a State Monitoring Authority, compr\u00adising of senior offi\u00adcials of different departments of the st\u00adate government and a subject matter expe\u00adrt nominated by the government. The Depa\u00adrtment has also nomi\u00adnated IDSA as the su\u00adbject matter expert in the state Monitor\u00ading Committee.<\/p>\n
