{"id":329562,"date":"2020-12-15T07:59:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T07:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=329562"},"modified":"2020-12-15T07:59:00","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T07:59:00","slug":"no-winter-session-of-parliament-due-to-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/no-winter-session-of-parliament-due-to-coronavirus\/","title":{"rendered":"No Winter Session of Parliament due to coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-316853 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/parliament.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"833\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/11\/parliament.jpg 833w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/11\/parliament-300x129.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/11\/parliament-768x330.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/11\/parliament-696x299.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 833px) 100vw, 833px\" \/>The government has officially said there will be no winter session of Parliament this time because of the coronavirus outbreak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi in his letter to Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury made it clear that no winter session of Parliament will be convened, and the Budget Session is likely to be called in January next year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The minister said he had informally contacted floor leaders of various political parties and they were in favour of skipping the winter session.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Chowdhury had earlier sent a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding that a short Winter Session of Parliament be convened to discuss a number of issues such as farmers&#8217; agitation over the three farm bills, preparation of Covid-19 vaccine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the leaders of opposition were not consulted for the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha was NOT consulted. Mr. Pralhad Joshi is as usual departing from the truth,\u201d Jairam tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Monsoon Session was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic this year.
