{"id":328543,"date":"2020-11-11T12:12:58","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T12:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=328543"},"modified":"2020-11-11T12:12:58","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T12:12:58","slug":"supreme-court-grants-interim-bail-to-arnab-goswami-in-2018-abetment-to-suicide-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/supreme-court-grants-interim-bail-to-arnab-goswami-in-2018-abetment-to-suicide-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court grants interim bail to Arnab Goswami in 2018 abetment to suicide case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-305446 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court.jpg 660w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court-633x420.jpg 633w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted interim bail to Republic TV&#8217;s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami in 2018 abetment to suicide case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A two-judge bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee said Goswami and two others should be released on interim bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Top Court directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to ensure the order is followed immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The SC also said that\u00a0Goswami and\u00a0two others must cooperate with the probe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The hearing came two days after the Bombay High Court turned down Goswami&#8217;s plea against his arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Apex Court said that they are \u201cseeing case after case where High Courts are not granting bail and failing to protect personal liberty of people\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On November 9, Arnab Goswami had challenged the Bombay High Court&#8217;s order wherein the court refused to grant him and two others interim bail in the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The high court had instead asked them to approach a lower court to seek bail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Arnab Goswami was arrested on November 4, in connection with an old abetment to suicide case of a 53-year-old interior designer and his mother in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">After Goswami\u2019s arrest from his residence in Mumbai, he was taken to Alibaug, where the Chief Judicial Magistrate remanded him in judicial custody till November 18.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted interim bail to Republic TV&#8217;s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami in 2018 abetment to suicide case.
