{"id":328483,"date":"2020-11-09T10:04:12","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T10:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=328483"},"modified":"2020-11-09T10:20:36","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T10:20:36","slug":"bombay-high-court-refuses-interim-bail-to-arnab-goswami-in-2018-abetment-to-suicide-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/bombay-high-court-refuses-interim-bail-to-arnab-goswami-in-2018-abetment-to-suicide-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Bombay High Court refuses interim bail to Arnab Goswami in 2018 abetment to suicide case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328319 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Arnab.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"396\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/11\/Arnab.jpg 396w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/11\/Arnab-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/11\/Arnab-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 396px) 100vw, 396px\" \/>The Bombay high court on Monday refused to grant interim bail to Republic TV editor-in-chief Arab Goswami in a 2018 abetment to suicide case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The High Court had directed him to approach a lower court to seek bail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On Saturday, the court had reserved its order on Goswami\u2019s plea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier requested High Court to take suo moto cognizance of the way MVA State Government in Maharashtra has treated Arnab Goswami during the entire process of arrest to handling under custody, as alleged by him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWhile deciding on the matter today, it is our humble request to the Hon High Court to take suo moto cognizance of the way MVA State Government in Maharashtra has treated Arnab Goswami during the entire process of arrest to handling under custody, as alleged by him,\u201d Fadnavis earlier tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Arnab Goswami was arrested on November 4, in connection with an old abetment to suicide case of a 53-year-old interior designer and his mother in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">After Goswami\u2019s arrest from his residence in Mumbai, he was taken to Alibaug, where the Chief Judicial Magistrate remanded him in judicial custody till November 18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari today spoke to state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and conveyed to him his concern over the security and health of Republic TV\u2019s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Governor also asked the Home Minister to allow Arnab Goswami&#8217;s family to meet and speak to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cGovernor Bhagat Singh Koshyari spoke to Maharashtra\u2019s Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and conveyed to him his concern over the security and health of news anchor and editor-in-chief of Republic Media Network Arnab Goswami,\u201d official twitter account of Governor stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe Governor also asked the Home Minister to allow the family of Arnab Goswami to see him and to speak to him.
