{"id":327405,"date":"2020-10-10T02:52:01","date_gmt":"2020-10-10T02:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=327405"},"modified":"2020-10-10T02:54:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-10T02:54:56","slug":"2nd-us-presidential-debate-officially-cancelled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/2nd-us-presidential-debate-officially-cancelled\/","title":{"rendered":"2nd US presidential debate officially cancelled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-327406 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/trumpbiden.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/10\/trumpbiden.jpg 570w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/10\/trumpbiden-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/>The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) on Friday said that the debate between US President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden has been officially cancelled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Commission said both campaigns had announced alternate plans for that date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cCPD announced that for the health and safety of all involved, the second presidential debate, scheduled for October 15 in Miami, would be conducted virtually.\u00a0 Subsequently, the campaigns of the two candidates who qualified for participation in the debate made a series of statements concerning their respective positions regarding their willingness to participate in a virtual debate on October 15, and each now has announced alternate plans for that date,\u201d according to the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt is now apparent there will be no debate on October 15, and the CPD will turn its attention to preparations for the final presidential debate scheduled for October 22,&#8221; the commission said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The commission had earlier announced that the October 15 debate will take virtually out of an abundance of caution because Trump had tested positive for the coronavirus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">President Trump announced last Friday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and spent three days hospitalized receiving treatment before being released on Monday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Trump said he would not participate in a debate in virtual format.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) on Friday said that the debate between US President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden has been officially cancelled.
