{"id":327245,"date":"2020-10-05T09:05:50","date_gmt":"2020-10-05T09:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=327245"},"modified":"2020-10-05T12:35:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-05T12:35:56","slug":"drdo-conducts-successful-flight-test-of-supersonic-missile-assisted-release-of-torpedo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/drdo-conducts-successful-flight-test-of-supersonic-missile-assisted-release-of-torpedo\/","title":{"rendered":"DRDO conducts successful flight test of Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/drdo-conducts-successful-flight-test-of-supersonic-missile-assisted-release-of-torpedo\/smart\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-327252\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-327252 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/smart-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"468\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/10\/smart-250x300.jpg 250w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/10\/smart-350x420.jpg 350w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2020\/10\/smart.jpg 531w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" \/><\/a>The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday conducted a successful flight test of Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">All the mission objectives including missile flight upto the range and altitude, separation of the nose cone, the release of Torpedo and deployment of Velocity Reduction Mechanism (VRM) have been met perfectly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The tracking stations (Radars, Electro-Optical Systems) along the coast and the telemetry stations including down range ships monitored all the events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">SMART is a missile assisted release of lightweight Anti-Submarine Torpedo System for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations far beyond Torpedo range. This launch and demonstration are significant in establishing Anti-Submarine warfare capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">A number of DRDO laboratories including DRDL, RCI Hyderabad, ADRDE Agra, NSTL Visakhapatnam have developed the technologies required for SMART.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO Scientists for the important feat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">&#8220;The @DRDO_India has successfully flight tested the Supersonic Missile assisted release of Torpedo, SMART. This will be a major technology breakthrough for stand-off capability in anti-submarine warfare.
