Santa, confirmed that this is the first COVID-19 fatality in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The deceased 56-year-old man, a resident of Khongjom Sapam village in Thoubal district, succumbed to the disease at around 2 am on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The deceased was admitted to the institute on May 22 for the treatment of kidney-related issues and high blood pressure, a RIMS official said. He was tested COVID-19 positive on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">According to local media reports, the deceased had been suffering from many ailments, including chronic kidney disease and diabetes. The deceased also had multiple sessions of dialysis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">As the number of positive cases spiked in Thoubal districts, Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, SP Thoubal district, appealed, in a video message, to the people of the state to strictly adhere to lockdown guidelines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">He further urged the people of the district, in particular, to cooperate in tackling the threat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In the past 24 hours, 56 persons have been recovered and discharged from various hospitals and COVID Care Centers in Manipur.
