{"id":318915,"date":"2020-01-15T03:45:04","date_gmt":"2020-01-15T03:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=318915"},"modified":"2020-01-15T03:45:04","modified_gmt":"2020-01-15T03:45:04","slug":"broadband-2g-services-to-be-partially-restored-in-jammu-and-kashmir-ban-on-social-media-stays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/broadband-2g-services-to-be-partially-restored-in-jammu-and-kashmir-ban-on-social-media-stays\/","title":{"rendered":"Broadband, 2G services to be partially restored in Jammu and Kashmir, ban on social media stays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-300677 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/abduct.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"781\" height=\"604\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/abduct.jpg 781w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/abduct-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/abduct-768x594.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/abduct-696x538.jpg 696w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/abduct-543x420.jpg 543w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 781px) 100vw, 781px\" \/>The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday evening allowed broadband internet in parts of Jammu region but only on white-listed websites, an official order said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Social networking sites, however, will remain under complete restriction, the order said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The institutions that would be given internet access includes government websites and websites dealing with essential services, the order said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">It also stated that the institutions would be responsible for preventing any misuse and will have to take necessary precautions, including appointment of nodal officers, keeping record and monitoring usage, and having authorised users.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The administration asked\u00a0internet service providers to offer broadband facility (with Mac binding) to all institutions dealing with essential services such as hospitals, banks and government offices, it said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In order to facilitate tourism, the broadband Internet services would be provided to hotels and tour and travel establishments, it added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The order said 2G mobile connectivity on post-paid mobiles for accessing white-listed websites including e-banking shall be allowed in districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The order came days after the Top Court ordered a review of the curbs imposed in the Union Territory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir since August, when the Centre announced to scrapping of the Constitution&#8217;s Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories \u2014 Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday evening allowed broadband internet in parts of Jammu region but only on white-listed websites, an official order said.
