{"id":318788,"date":"2020-01-13T08:47:48","date_gmt":"2020-01-13T08:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=318788"},"modified":"2020-01-13T08:47:48","modified_gmt":"2020-01-13T08:47:48","slug":"jnu-violence-delhi-high-court-notice-to-whatsapp-apple-and-google-on-plea-to-preserve-data-evidence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/jnu-violence-delhi-high-court-notice-to-whatsapp-apple-and-google-on-plea-to-preserve-data-evidence\/","title":{"rendered":"JNU Violence: Delhi High Court notice to WhatsApp, Apple and Google on plea to preserve data, evidence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-300426 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/DHC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/DHC.jpg 650w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/DHC-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/DHC-642x420.jpg 642w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/>The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notice to Apple, WhatsApp and Google on the petition of three Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professors who had sought to preserve the CCTV footage, WhatsApp conversations and other evidences related to the January 5 violence on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The petition filed by JNU professors &#8211; Ameet Parameswaran, Atul Sood and Shukla Vinayak Sawant had approached the Delhi High Court through a petition seeking preservation of data of social media and other material\/evidences related to violence at the university campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Justice Brijesh Sethi listed the matter for further hearing on January 14.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Delhi police informed the HC that they have already sought CCTV footage, however, there is no response from JNU.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Police also informed that they have written to WhatsApp seeking details of the two groups&#8211; Unity Against Left\u2019 and \u2018Friends of RSS\u2019 including messages, pictures and videos and phone numbers of members and waiting for response.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On January 5, a group of masked goons entered the JNU campus\u00a0and attacked students and teachers with sticks and rods.
