{"id":315551,"date":"2019-10-10T06:15:56","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T06:15:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=315551"},"modified":"2019-10-10T06:15:56","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T06:15:56","slug":"kashmir-opens-for-tourists-today-more-than-two-months-after-travel-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/kashmir-opens-for-tourists-today-more-than-two-months-after-travel-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Kashmir opens for tourists today, more than two months after travel ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-315552 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/kashmir.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"493\" height=\"543\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/10\/kashmir.jpg 452w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/10\/kashmir-272x300.jpg 272w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/10\/kashmir-381x420.jpg 381w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 493px) 100vw, 493px\" \/>Jammu and Kashmir will open for tourists from Thursday, more than two months after a security advisory was issued asking tourists and pilgrims to leave the state immediately due to a \u2018terror threat\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">After holding a security review meeting, Governor Satya Pal Malik had on Monday decided to lift the restriction from Thursday on entry of tourists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Centre had in early August cancelled the Amarnath Yatra and advised pilgrims and tourists to cut short their stay in the Valley over possible terrorist attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Due to this, thousands of tourists, pilgrims, workers and students from other states had to leave Jammu and Kashmir.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">This came days before the revocation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Telephone and internet services were suspended in many areas\u2019 hours before the centre announced its Article 370 move.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><u>The first electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir after revocation of Article 370<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The administration has decided to hold Block Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir on October 24.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">However, the Congress on Wednesday announced that they have decided to boycott the local body election in Jammu and Kashmir to protest against the detention of leaders post abrogation of Article 370.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Addressing a press conference, Jammu and Kashmir Congress Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir had said, \u201cdue to indifferent attitude of the state administration and continued detention of several leaders in the valley, we have no other choice left but to boycott the elections.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jammu and Kashmir will open for tourists from Thursday, more than two months after a security advisory was issued asking tourists and pilgrims to leave the state immediately due to a \u2018terror threat\u2019.
