{"id":314652,"date":"2019-08-15T17:04:00","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T17:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=314652"},"modified":"2019-09-07T09:56:05","modified_gmt":"2019-09-07T09:56:05","slug":"unsc-to-hold-closed-consultations-on-kashmir-on-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/unsc-to-hold-closed-consultations-on-kashmir-on-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"UNSC to hold closed consultations on Kashmir on Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-314655 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/UNSC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/08\/UNSC.jpg 660w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/08\/UNSC-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/08\/UNSC-637x420.jpg 637w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/>China has formally requested for \u2018closed consultations\u2019 in the UN Security Council to discuss India\u2019s decision to rescind Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir after Pakistan wrote a letter seeking a meeting, according to a top diplomat at UN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A request for the meeting was made in a letter by China and came up during the Council&#8217;s informal consultations on Wednesday, the diplomat said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Pakistan will not be present in room during the closed-door consultations, the diplomat added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The diplomat said Poland, president of the council for August was working out the details for holding the meeting and when it was to be held.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Pakistan had asked for a meeting of the UNSC to discuss India revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi recently said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his recent bilateral meeting with China\u2019s foreign minister Wang Yi in Beijing, conveyed that the decision to revoke Article 370 was an internal matter of India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">After India revoked Article 370 on August 5 and announced the bifurcation of the state into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Islamabad had said that it will approach the UN Security Council against New Delhi&#8217;s decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">India has categorically told the international community that its move to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China has formally requested for \u2018closed consultations\u2019 in the UN Security Council to discuss India\u2019s decision to rescind Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir after Pakistan wrote a letter seeking a meeting, according to a top diplomat at UN.
