{"id":314627,"date":"2019-08-13T14:26:25","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T14:26:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=314627"},"modified":"2019-08-13T14:26:25","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T14:26:25","slug":"jailed-husband-helped-wife-run-drugs-business-over-mobile-phone-reports-rajuwilliam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/jailed-husband-helped-wife-run-drugs-business-over-mobile-phone-reports-rajuwilliam\/","title":{"rendered":"Jailed husband helped wife run drugs business over mobile phone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-300656 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/jail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"508\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/jail.jpg 640w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/jail-300x238.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/07\/jail-529x420.jpg 529w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>A married woman arrested for her involvement in illegal drugs business could maintain contact with her jailed husband on daily basis because he had access to mobile phone inside the jail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The disturbing fact came to light during the interrogation of two women arrested by Patiala police on drugs charges on Monday from village Rajgarh in Patiala district.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Identified as Manjit Kaur aka Bitto told the police that she used to be in touch with her husband Surjit Singh lodged in the district jail on the charge of his involvement in running a drug racket for the last five months, said Patiala district police chief Mandeep Singh Sidhu \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Based on the disclosure, the jail authorities after being informed by the police, recovered the mobile phone from his jail barrack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">A case was registered against him at the police station, Tripuri, Patiala.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The arrested woman told that she used to get instructions from her husband to run the drugs business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The development has once again exposed the jail administration for its laxity in the backdrop of the alleged use of mobile phones by the jail inmates especially those facing charges of drugs smuggling. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The police had yesterday arrested Bitto and her woman associate and recovered 850 Grams Heroin and Rs 5 lakh drug money.
