{"id":314180,"date":"2019-07-23T07:48:54","date_gmt":"2019-07-23T07:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=314180"},"modified":"2019-07-23T07:48:54","modified_gmt":"2019-07-23T07:48:54","slug":"no-such-request-made-by-pm-modi-s-jaishankar-on-donald-trumps-kashmir-mediation-remark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/no-such-request-made-by-pm-modi-s-jaishankar-on-donald-trumps-kashmir-mediation-remark\/","title":{"rendered":"No such request made by PM Modi: S Jaishankar on Donald Trump\u2019s Kashmir mediation remark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-314181 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/jai-shankar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"595\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/07\/jai-shankar.jpg 595w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/07\/jai-shankar-300x196.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 595px) 100vw, 595px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made no request to US President Donald Trump to mediate on the Kashmir issue with Pakistan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI would like to categorically assure the House that no such request has been made by Prime Minister Modi,\u201d Jaishankar said in Rajya Sabha amid a massive controversy over the US leader&#8217;s claim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Jaishankar further said it had been the consistent position of India that all outstanding issues with Pakistan could be discussed only bilaterally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">He said any engagement with Pakistan will require an end to cross-border terrorism, adding to it the minister said Simla and Lahore accords provided the basis for resolution of all issues bilaterally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">President Trump on Monday claimed that PM Modi had asked him to play the role of a mediator on Kashmir.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Trump said, he had received a request to do so from PM Modi during a recent meeting with him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIf I can help, I would love to be a mediator. If I can do anything to help, let me know,\u201d Trump said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI was with Prime Minister Modi two weeks ago and we talked about this subject (Kashmir).
