The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Wednesday ordered Pakistan to review and reconsider the death sentence given in 2017 to Kulbhushan Jadhav on charges of spying, reports said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The court also granted consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav.<\/span><\/p>\n

Welcoming the ICJ’s verdict, Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that It is a great victory for India.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wholeheartedly welcome the verdict of International Court of Justice in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav. It is a great victory for India, she tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n

Swaraj further said, \u201cI thank the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi for our initiative to take Jadhav’s case before International Court of Justice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI thank Mr.Harish Salve for presenting India’s case before ICJ very effectively and successfull,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI hope the verdict will provide the much needed solace to the family members of Kulbhushan Jadhav,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Congress also welcomed the ICJ\u2019s verdict in Kulbhushan Jadhav case.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe verdict came nearly five months after a 15-member bench of ICJ led by Judge Yusuf had reserved its decision on February 21.<\/span>

\nIndia moved the ICJ in May 2017 against the \u201cfarcical trial\u201d by the Pakistani military court against 49-year-old Jadhav.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pakistan claims that its security forces arrested Jadhav from the Balochistan province in March 2016 after he reportedly entered the country from Iran with the intention of spying and carrying out sabotage activities. But India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n
