{"id":313235,"date":"2019-06-12T05:08:42","date_gmt":"2019-06-12T05:08:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=313235"},"modified":"2019-06-12T05:08:42","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T05:08:42","slug":"cyclone-vayu-to-hit-gujarat-on-june-13-imd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/cyclone-vayu-to-hit-gujarat-on-june-13-imd\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyclone \u2018Vayu\u2019 to hit Gujarat on June 13: IMD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-304039 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/cyclone-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"462\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/10\/cyclone-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/10\/cyclone-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/10\/cyclone-420x420.jpg 420w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/10\/cyclone.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Cyclone \u2018Vayu\u2019 intensified into severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday and is likely to hit the Gujarat coast on the morning of June 13, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt is very likely to move nearly northwards and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval and Diu region as a very severe cyclonic storm in morning of 13th June,\u201d it said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday reviewed the preparations for Cyclone Vayu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Following the High-Level Review meeting Shah had issued detailed advisories to the State of Gujarat and UT of Diu requesting them to take all precautionary measures with a view to ensure that no human life is lost, damage to vital infrastructure is minimized and to ensure early recovery of all essential services post-cyclone landfall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">State\/UT Governments have also been advised for timely evacuation of people from low-lying coastal and vulnerable areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Gujarat\u00a0and Diu Administration will be evacuating nearly 3 lakh people from the identified vulnerable areas on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The evacuated people will be shifted to around 700 cyclone\/relief shelters. 39 NDRF Teams are being pre-positioned in and Diu for helping the State\/UT Administration in evacuation, search, rescue and relief operations.
