He had been in and out of hospital for more than a year before his death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Karunanidhi was born on June 3, 1924 in the village of\u00a0Thirukkuvalai\u00a0in\u00a0Nagapattinam district. He had worked in the\u00a0Tamil film industry\u00a0as a screenwriter before entering politics. He has also made contributions to\u00a0Tamil literature, having written stories, novels and plays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Karunanidhi entered the Tamil Nadu assembly by winning the\u00a0Kulithalai\u00a0seat in the 1957 election at the age of 33.
