Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Randeep Surjewala, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his deputy Sachin Pilot were on Tuesday arrived at Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s residence following his insistence on stepping down from the top post after the party\u2019s crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rahul had first offered his resignation during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Saturday; however, it was unanimously rejected.<\/span><\/p>\n

The CWC has also authorised Rahul to make structural changes in the party.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday, Congress\u2019 Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal met Rahul Gandhi. But Patel insisted that he had gone to meet Rahul Gandhi for routine administrative work.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI had sought time before the CWC to meet the Congress President to discuss routine administrative work.\u00a0 The meeting today was in that context All other speculation is incorrect and baseless,\u201d Ahmed Patel had tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n

Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar on Monday sent his resignation from the post to party president Rahul Gandhi.<\/span><\/p>\n

The state unit presidents of the Congress in Odisha, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh had also submitted their resignations to Congress President after the party\u2019s debacle in the Lok Sabha elections.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Congress won only 52 seats out of 542 Lok Sabha seats.<\/span><\/p>\n

The party lost even in the states of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh that it won in December.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
