{"id":311182,"date":"2019-04-10T12:51:37","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T12:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=311182"},"modified":"2019-04-10T16:40:38","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T16:40:38","slug":"ec-stops-release-of-pm-modi-biopic-during-election-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/ec-stops-release-of-pm-modi-biopic-during-election-period\/","title":{"rendered":"EC stops release of PM Modi biopic during election period"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-311138 aligncenter\" style=\"font-size: 18.6667px;\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/PM-Modi-biopic-300x163.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"537\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/04\/PM-Modi-biopic-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/04\/PM-Modi-biopic.jpg 616w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 537px) 100vw, 537px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday stopped the release of the movie \u2018PM Narendra Modi&#8221;, a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying any such film that sub-served purpose of any political party should not be displayed in the electronic media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Earlier, the movie was scheduled to release on April 11, the day Lok Sabha Elections 2019 is set to begin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On Tuesday the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a stay on the release of the movie, saying that it is for the EC to decide whether the release of the movie on the date of elections can tilt the balance in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as alleged by the opposition Congress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The top court\u00a0had said, \u201cthe plea is \u201cpremature\u201d as the movie was yet to be certified by the Censor Board.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who represented Congress had alleged that the film violates the Model Code of Conduct and that most of the people associated with the movie were linked to the BJP.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday stopped the release of the movie \u2018PM Narendra Modi&#8221;, a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying any such film that sub-served purpose of any political party should not be displayed in the electronic media.
