{"id":310865,"date":"2019-03-28T07:09:48","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T07:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=310865"},"modified":"2019-03-28T07:09:48","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T07:09:48","slug":"us-steps-up-to-blacklist-masood-azhar-at-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/us-steps-up-to-blacklist-masood-azhar-at-un\/","title":{"rendered":"US steps up to blacklist Masood Azhar at UN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-310163 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/azhar-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/03\/azhar-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/03\/azhar.jpg 597w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 469px) 100vw, 469px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The United States (US) on Wednesday circulated a draft resolution with British and French support to the UN Security Council that would blacklist the leader of a Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) leader Masood Azhar as a terrorist, setting up a potential clash with China over the move.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Earlier this month, China put on hold a request to put Azhar on the UN sanctions list, over his alleged ties to Al-Qaeda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">JeM has claimed responsibility\u00a0for a February\u00a014 attack in Jammu and Kashmir&#8217;s Pulwama that killed at least 40 CRPF personnel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said that China had conducted a &#8220;comprehensive and thorough evaluation&#8221; however still needed more time to consider the proposal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Previously, there have been four attempts through a UN sanctions committee to add Azhar to the blacklist.
