Goa chief minister and former defence minister Manohar Parrikar passed away on Sunday evening after battling pancreatic cancer for over a year.<\/span><\/p>\n

As per the Goa CMO, Manohar Parrikar’s body will be kept at the Panjim BJP head office from 9.30 am to 10.30 am after which his body will be taken to Kala Academy in Panaji for the public to pay their final respects. His body will be kept for public viewing until 4 pm after which the funeral procession to Miramar area in the capital will be held.<\/span><\/p>\n

His last rites will be performed at around 5 pm today.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sadness on the demise of Parrikar. Modi said he was an unparalleled leader. A true patriot and exceptional administrator. His impeccable service to the nation will be remembered by generations<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShri Manohar Parrikar was the builder of modern Goa. Thanks to his affable personality and accessible nature, he remained the preferred leader of the state for years. His pro-people policies ensured Goa scales remarkable heights of progress,\u201d Modi added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Modi further said, \u201cIndia will be eternally grateful to Shri Manohar Parrikar for his tenure as our Defence Minister. When he was RM, India witnessed a series of decisions that enhanced India\u2019s security capacities, boosted indigenous defence production and bettered the lives of ex-servicemen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Parrikar was known for his honesty, integrity and simplicity<\/span><\/p>\n

The Centre announced national mourning on Monday, declaring that the National Flag will fly at half-mast across the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, Goa had announced seven-day mourning after Parrikar\u2019s death. All schools and educational institutions in the state will be shut today and all examinations have been postponed.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
