Justice Khanna was the part of the Supreme Court\u2019s bench, which was hearing the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Kumar had surrendered in a local court in Delhi on December 31 last year to serve a life sentence in pursuance of the high court&#8217;s December 17 judgment awarding him life imprisonment for the &#8220;remainder of his natural life&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The anti-Sikh riots broke out after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 by her two Sikh bodyguards.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjiv Khanna on Monday recused himself from hearing former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar\u2019s plea against his conviction and sentence in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
