{"id":309585,"date":"2019-02-19T09:34:12","date_gmt":"2019-02-19T09:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=309585"},"modified":"2019-02-20T09:42:43","modified_gmt":"2019-02-20T09:42:43","slug":"anuj-sharma-appointed-as-new-kolkata-police-commissioner-rajeev-kumar-transferred-to-cid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/anuj-sharma-appointed-as-new-kolkata-police-commissioner-rajeev-kumar-transferred-to-cid\/","title":{"rendered":"Anuj Sharma appointed as new Kolkata Police Commissioner, Rajeev Kumar transferred to CID"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/anuj-sharma-appointed-as-new-kolkata-police-commissioner-rajeev-kumar-transferred-to-cid\/anuj-sharma\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-309608\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-309608 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/anuj-sharma-296x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/02\/anuj-sharma-296x300.jpg 296w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/02\/anuj-sharma-414x420.jpg 414w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/02\/anuj-sharma.jpg 496w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/a>Additional Director General of West Bengal Police (law and order) Anuj Sharma was on Tuesday appointed as new Commissioner of Kolkata Police after his predecessor Rajeev Kumar was posted as ADG and IGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), West Bengal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Sharma who was earlier the Additional Director-General of West Bengal Police (law and order) is a\u00a01991 batch IPS officer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Kumar, a former Kolkata Police Commissioner is a 1989-batch IPS officer of West Bengal cadre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">This came after Kumar was accused by the CBI of tampering with the evidence in the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">A team of CBI officers on February 3 had arrived at Kumar&#8217;s residence in Kolkata for questioning him in connection with chit fund scam. However, the CBI team was not allowed to question and were instead detained by the Kolkata police. Following which a war broke out between the Centre and the Mamata Banerjee government with the Mamata sitting on a protest against the BJP-led Centre over alleged misuse of CBI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The matter then reached\u00a0the Supreme Court which directed Kumar to appear before the agency and cooperate in the investigation of cases arising out of the chit fund scandal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The court chose Shillong as the neutral meeting place \u201cto avoid all unnecessary controversy\u201d and made it clear that no coercive action including arrest would be taken against Kumar.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Additional Director General of West Bengal Police (law and order) Anuj Sharma was on Tuesday appointed as new Commissioner of Kolkata Police after his predecessor Rajeev Kumar was posted as ADG and IGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), West Bengal.
