{"id":309255,"date":"2019-02-12T07:17:11","date_gmt":"2019-02-12T07:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=309255"},"modified":"2019-02-12T07:17:11","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T07:17:11","slug":"sc-holds-m-nageswara-rao-guilty-of-contempt-of-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/sc-holds-m-nageswara-rao-guilty-of-contempt-of-court\/","title":{"rendered":"SC holds M Nageswara Rao guilty of contempt of Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-305446 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"565\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court-633x420.jpg 633w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/Supreme-Court.jpg 660w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Supreme Court on Tuesday held former CBI interim director M Nageswara Rao guilty of contempt, rejecting his apology for transferring the investigating officer probing the Bihar shelter home rape case against a top court order.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Court sentenced him to sit in the court till the rising of the day and imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi\u00a0called Rao&#8217;s attitude brazen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Attorney General K K Venugopal, appearing for Rao, made a fervent plea for leniency, saying that Rao&#8217;s decision to transfer shelter officer was an &#8216;error.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The bench said, \u201cwe did not understand how Rao could relieve the investigating officer without taking the court into confidence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On Monday, Rao had admitted that he committed a &#8220;mistake&#8221; in transferring former joint director AK Sharma and apologised to the Supreme Court and offered unconditional and unqualified apology, saying he had no intention to circumvent its orders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On February 7,\u00a0 the bench, came down heavily on CBI for transferring its former Joint Director A K Sharma, who was probing Bihar&#8217;s shelter home case, out of the agency in violation of the court&#8217;s order and directed its then interim director M Nageswara Rao to personally appear before it on February 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;I sincerely realise my mistake and tender my unconditional and unequivocal apology to this court.
