{"id":308717,"date":"2019-02-01T04:12:30","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T04:12:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=308717"},"modified":"2019-02-01T04:12:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T04:12:30","slug":"dac-clears-rs-40000-crore-project-to-construct-six-submarines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/dac-clears-rs-40000-crore-project-to-construct-six-submarines\/","title":{"rendered":"DAC clears Rs 40,000 crore project to construct six Submarines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-308718 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/submarine-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"322\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/02\/submarine-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/02\/submarine.jpg 545w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In a landmark decision, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday approved indigenous construction of six submarines for the Indian Navy at a cost of over Rs. 40,000 crore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">This is the second project under the MoD\u2019s ambitious Strategic Partnership (SP) model that aims at providing a significant fillip to the government\u2019s \u2018Make in India\u2019 programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The first project under SP model was indigenous production of 111 naval utility helicopters in August 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">SP model envisages indigenous manufacturing of major defence platforms by an Indian Strategic Partner, who will collaborate with foreign OEM to set up production facilities in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The model has a long-term vision of promoting India as a manufacturing hub for defence equipment through transfer of niche technologies and higher Indigenous Content thereby enhancing self-sufficiency for meeting the future requirements of the Armed Forces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Today&#8217;s DAC approval would be second such project following indigenous production of 111 Naval Utility Helicopters that was approved in August 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Construction of six submarines under Project 75(I) will provide a major boost to the existing submarine design and manufacturing eco-system in India through transfer of design and equipment technology as well as necessary skill sets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The DAC has also approved the acquisition of approximately 5000 Milan Anti-Tank guided missiles for the Army.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a landmark decision, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday approved indigenous construction of six submarines for the Indian Navy at a cost of over Rs. 40,000 crore.
