{"id":308595,"date":"2019-01-28T04:36:55","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T04:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=308595"},"modified":"2019-01-28T16:51:48","modified_gmt":"2019-01-28T16:51:48","slug":"mdmk-leader-arrested-for-derogatory-post-about-pm-modi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/mdmk-leader-arrested-for-derogatory-post-about-pm-modi\/","title":{"rendered":"MDMK leader arrested for derogatory post about PM Modi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">A local MDMK [Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam] leader has been arrested for alleged derogatory social media post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Sirkazhi town on 27th January 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Sathiyaraj alias Balu, an office-bearer of MDMK&#8217;s Sirkazhi town unit in the district, was arrested on Sunday night on complaints from local BJP and Hindu Makkal Katchi leaders about the Facebook post made ahead of Modi&#8217;s visit to Tamil Nadu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">According to police, Sathiyaraj allegedly created a caricature of Modi and depicted him as carrying &#8220;a begging bowl&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">On Monday, he was produced before Sirkazhi Judicial Magistrate Yuvaraj who remanded him to judicial custody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The MDMK worker had made the post on January 26 in connection with the &#8216;GoBackModi&#8217; campaign in the social media opposing the visit of the Prime Minister to Madurai for laying the foundation stone of AIIMS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Local BJP unit president Selvam and Hindu Makkal Katchi state president Swaminathan on Sunday lodged a complaint with the Sirkazhi police seeking action against Sathiyaraj.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Inspector Singaravel registered a case and arrested Sathiyaraj following investigations according to police declarations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the Rs 1,264 crore All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Thoppur near Madurai.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The MDMK had staged a black flag protest against Modi shortly before he arrived in Madurai, accusing him of betraying the interests of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Over 100 MDMK workers led by its chief Vaiko were detained over the protest and later let off.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A local MDMK [Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam] leader has been arrested for alleged derogatory social media post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Sirkazhi town on 27th January 2018.
