{"id":307933,"date":"2019-01-10T07:19:52","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T07:19:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=307933"},"modified":"2019-01-10T07:19:52","modified_gmt":"2019-01-10T07:19:52","slug":"sc-defers-ayodhya-case-to-january-29-after-justice-uu-lalit-recuses-himself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/sc-defers-ayodhya-case-to-january-29-after-justice-uu-lalit-recuses-himself\/","title":{"rendered":"SC defers Ayodhya case to January 29 after Justice UU Lalit recuses himself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-299685 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-2-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"526\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-2-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-2.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Supreme Court on Thursday\u00a0adjourned the hearing in Ayodhya case\u00a0till January 29 after one of the judges recused himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Justice UU Lalit recused himself from hearing into the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid matter after objections raised by Muslim parties as Justice Lalit had represented former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh as a lawyer in a Babri Masjid case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Reports said that a new five-judge bench would have to be constituted\u00a0to hear the Ayodhya case as Justice Lalit recused himself from hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The other judges on the Constitution Bench are Justice NV Ramana, Justice SA Bobde and Justice DY Chandrachud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Ram Mandir case has been pending in the top court for six decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On Tuesday, the court set up the five-Judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi to hear the title suit in Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Supreme Court had last week said the appropriate bench that will hear a batch of cross appeals against the Allahabad High Court judgment in 2010 on the Ayodhya case will decide the future course of the hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice SK Kaul said that further orders would be passed by an appropriate bench on January 10.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on Thursday\u00a0adjourned the hearing in Ayodhya case\u00a0till January 29 after one of the judges recused himself.
