{"id":307895,"date":"2019-01-09T07:58:44","date_gmt":"2019-01-09T07:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=307895"},"modified":"2019-01-09T07:58:44","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T07:58:44","slug":"delhi-hc-dismisses-pil-seeking-ban-on-trailer-of-the-accidental-prime-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/delhi-hc-dismisses-pil-seeking-ban-on-trailer-of-the-accidental-prime-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Delhi HC dismisses PIL seeking ban on trailer of \u2018The Accidental Prime Minister\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-307896 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/accidental-pm-300x172.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"544\" height=\"312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/01\/accidental-pm-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/01\/accidental-pm.jpg 604w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Delhi High Court on Wednesday morning dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on the trailer of the film\u00a0\u201cThe Accidental Prime Minister\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The PIL, filed by Pooja Mahajan, a Delhi-based fashion designer said the film will defames the Constitutional post such as Prime Minister.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Mahajan claimed that the film will tarnish the image of the prime ministerial post, nationally and internationally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court on Tuesday against the trailer of the movie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The film is based on a similarly titled the book by Sanjaya Baru, the media advisor of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The film is scheduled to open in theatres on January 11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Pooja Mahajan on January 7 had filed a plea through her counsel Arun Maitri alleging that the trailer affected and harming the image of the office of the\u00a0prime minister\u00a0and violated Section 416 of the Indian Penal Code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">However, the Delhi High Court disposed off a plea and asked the petitioner to file it as a public interest litigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">According to the reports, the petitioners\u00a0will now move to the Supreme Court over the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Delhi High Court on Wednesday morning dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on the trailer of the film\u00a0\u201cThe Accidental Prime Minister\u201d.
