{"id":307679,"date":"2019-01-02T04:38:39","date_gmt":"2019-01-02T04:38:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=307679"},"modified":"2019-01-02T04:38:39","modified_gmt":"2019-01-02T04:38:39","slug":"over-1-7-lakh-bridges-inventorised-under-ibms-says-mansukh-mandaviya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/over-1-7-lakh-bridges-inventorised-under-ibms-says-mansukh-mandaviya\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 1.7 Lakh Bridges Inventorised under IBMS, says Mansukh Mandaviya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-307680 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/bridge-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/01\/bridge-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/01\/bridge-100x70.jpg 100w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2019\/01\/bridge.jpg 490w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday said, \u201cthe Ministry of Road Transport and Highways\u00a0has inventorized 1,72,517 bridges\/structures under Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS).\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">These structures comprise 1,34,229 culverts, 32,806 minor bridges, 3,647 major and 1,835 extra-long bridges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cEarlier there was no proper data available on these structures on the National Highways network,\u201d it said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The IBM System has been established to develop the data in digital form, to identify the number of bridges and other structures on National Highways, to carry out the condition survey and inventorization of bridges\/structures and to identify the distressed bridges which need immediate attention and to sensitize the concerned implementation agency for taking corrective measures such as repair, rehabilitation reconstruction\/ new construction etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Minister said, \u201cthe bridges \/structure condition data will be collected twice a year during \u2018Pre-Monsoon\u2019 and \u2018Post-Monsoon\u2019 period for 3 years by using Mobile Bridge Inspection Units (MBIU).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Eleven consultancy firms have been appointed for this purpose.
