{"id":307364,"date":"2018-12-21T05:06:16","date_gmt":"2018-12-21T05:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=307364"},"modified":"2018-12-21T05:06:16","modified_gmt":"2018-12-21T05:06:16","slug":"centre-suspends-gujarat-ips-officer-rajnish-rai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/centre-suspends-gujarat-ips-officer-rajnish-rai\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre suspends Gujarat IPS officer Rajnish Rai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-307365 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/rairajnish-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"396\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/rairajnish-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/rairajnish-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/rairajnish-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/rairajnish-696x392.jpg 696w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/rairajnish-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/rairajnish-747x420.jpg 747w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/rairajnish.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 396px) 100vw, 396px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The\u00a0Union\u00a0Home Ministry\u00a0has suspended Gujarat-cadre\u00a0Indian Police Service\u00a0(IPS)\u00a0officer\u00a0Rajnish Rai\u00a0for his alleged role in &#8220;abdicating&#8221; his office as the\u00a0Inspector General (IG)\u00a0and Principal of\u00a0Central Reserve Police Force\u00a0(CRPF) training school at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The 52-year-old 1992-batch IPS officer, who had arrested three IPS officers while investigating the Sohrabuddin Shaikh encounter case in 2007, was placed under suspension as per December 17 order passed by the\u00a0Home Ministry\u00a0under the provisions of the\u00a0All India Services\u00a0(Discipline and Appeal) Rules.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Issued by the Directorate General, CRPF, the order also said that during the period of suspension, Rai will have to stay at the CRPF headquarters at Chittoor and cannot leave without permission of the DG, CRPF.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Rai had earlier this year sought voluntary retirement under the provisions of the\u00a0All India Services\u00a0(Death-Cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1958, but the Centre had rejected his request.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Rai moved the\u00a0Central Administrative Tribunal\u00a0(CAT) in Ahmedabad challenging the rejection.
