{"id":306699,"date":"2018-12-07T04:30:09","date_gmt":"2018-12-07T04:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=306699"},"modified":"2018-12-07T04:30:09","modified_gmt":"2018-12-07T04:30:09","slug":"cabinet-approves-amendment-of-jallianwala-bagh-memorial-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/cabinet-approves-amendment-of-jallianwala-bagh-memorial-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet approves amendment of Jallianwala Bagh Memorial Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-306700 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Jallianwala-bagh-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/Jallianwala-bagh-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/12\/Jallianwala-bagh.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the Amendment of the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Act, 1951.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The cabinet, in a release, said that decision to amend the act came to &#8220;secure representation as Trustees, \u201cthe Leader of Opposition recognized as such in the House of the People, or where there is no such Leader of Opposition, then the Leader of the single largest Opposition Party in the House\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;In the existing Act, there is provision for representation of a single national political party,&#8221; an official statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Deletion of the party-specific member from the Trust will make it apolitical. The proposed amendment ensures representation of the opposition party in the Trust,&#8221; it added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The proposed Amendment would also empower the government to terminate and replace a\u00a0Trustee\u00a0to participate in functioning of the Trust or for any other reason.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the Amendment of the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Act, 1951.
