{"id":306295,"date":"2018-11-29T12:43:25","date_gmt":"2018-11-29T12:43:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=306295"},"modified":"2018-11-29T12:43:25","modified_gmt":"2018-11-29T12:43:25","slug":"maharashtra-assembly-approves-reservation-bill-16-quota-for-marathas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/maharashtra-assembly-approves-reservation-bill-16-quota-for-marathas\/","title":{"rendered":"Maharashtra Assembly approves reservation bill, 16% quota for Marathas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-305773 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/fadnavis-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"484\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/fadnavis-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/fadnavis-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/fadnavis-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/fadnavis-696x391.jpg 696w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/fadnavis-1068x600.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/fadnavis-748x420.jpg 748w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/11\/fadnavis.jpg 1368w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 484px) 100vw, 484px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a Bill proposing 16 per cent reservation for Marathas under socially and educationally backward category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Action Taken Report (ATR) tabled in the legislature earlier by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, the government proposed to give 16 percent reservations to the Marathas under a new Social and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Maharashtra already has 52 per cent reservation and 16 per cent reservation is over and above the 50 per cent reservation allowed by the Supreme Court, the total reservation in Maharashtra will be pushed to 68 per cent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Fadnavis said, \u201cWe have completed a due procedure for Maratha reservation report and we are bringing a bill today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">He further said that the relevant formalities for implementing the quotas would be completed before the model code of conduct for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections was enforced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Fadnavis had earlier promised to give reservation to the Marathas and said that the report was to be tabled during the Winter Session of the Legislative Assembly.
