{"id":306174,"date":"2018-11-27T09:00:58","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T09:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=306174"},"modified":"2018-11-27T09:00:58","modified_gmt":"2018-11-27T09:00:58","slug":"supreme-court-slams-bihar-government-in-shelter-home-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/supreme-court-slams-bihar-government-in-shelter-home-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court slams Bihar government in shelter home cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-299371 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-1-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-1-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-1.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up Bihar government over its failure to register the appropriate criminal cases in connection with the alleged physical and sexual assault on children at shelter homes in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Supreme Court was hearing a separate case of multiple rapes at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur when it found faults in the way the Bihar government has been handling cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Supreme Court warned, &#8216;if we find that there were offences under section 377 Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and you did not register FIR, we will pass an order against the government.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Bihar government has registered only for minimum offence. If you haven&#8217;t registered FIR on 377, then how will you investigate?\u201d Supreme Court said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The apex court slammed Bihar government for not showing seriousness in the matter. \u201cWe were told that matter will be looked with great seriousness, this is seriousness?\u201d it added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The top court gave the state government 24 hours to add the charges under section 377 (rape) IPC and POCSO Act in the FIR.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Numerous cases of sexual abuse, rape, and torture were reported in the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home.
