{"id":305960,"date":"2018-11-22T10:15:57","date_gmt":"2018-11-22T10:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=305960"},"modified":"2018-11-22T10:15:57","modified_gmt":"2018-11-22T10:15:57","slug":"supreme-court-drops-contempt-case-against-manoj-tiwari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/supreme-court-drops-contempt-case-against-manoj-tiwari\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court drops contempt case against Manoj Tiwari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/police-registers-fir-against-delhi-bjp-chief-manoj-tiwari\/manoj-tiwari\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-302919\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-302919 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/manoj-tiwari-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/manoj-tiwari-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/manoj-tiwari-100x70.jpg 100w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/manoj-tiwari-599x420.jpg 599w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/manoj-tiwari.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a>The Supreme Court on Thursday dropped contempt proceedings against Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari for interfering with sealing activity but disapproved his action of breaking the seal of a commercial establishment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The apex court said it was \u201cpained by his conduct\u201d during the sealing exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Misplaced bravado\u201d has no place and such practices should be deprecated, the apex court added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The apex court had last month reserved its order on contempt proceedings initiated against Tiwari for allegedly breaking the seal of premises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The BJP leader had previously told the Supreme Court that he had broken the seal of premises as a &#8220;symbolic protest&#8221; against the illegal action of officials of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and was willing to accept the role of &#8216;sealing officer&#8217; as recommended by the apex court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In September, the apex court had issued contempt notice against Manoj Tiwari after taking note of a report filed by the monitoring committee which had alleged that Tiwari had broken the seal of the premises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In\u00a0his defence, Tiwari had earlier said that no contempt was committed by him as he had not \u201cdisobeyed\u201d any orders of the apex court.
