{"id":305896,"date":"2018-11-21T14:18:30","date_gmt":"2018-11-21T14:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=305896"},"modified":"2018-11-21T14:18:30","modified_gmt":"2018-11-21T14:18:30","slug":"3800-visas-issued-by-pak-for-guru-nanaks-birth-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/3800-visas-issued-by-pak-for-guru-nanaks-birth-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"3800 visas issued by Pak for Guru Nanak&#8217;s Birth Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued over 3800 visas to\u00a0Sikh pilgrims from India to participate in the birthday anniversary celebrations of Baba\u00a0Guru Nanak Dev in Pakistan from November 21 to 30, 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Under the framework of the Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974, a large number\u00a0of Sikh Yatrees (travelers) from India visit Pakistan to observe various religious festivals\/occasions every year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The over 3800 visas issued by the Pakistan High Commission are in addition to the visas issued to Sikh\u00a0pilgrims participating in the event from other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">This is by far the largest number of visas issued in recent years to Sikh yatrees for Baba Guru Nanak\u2019s birth anniversary celebrations, well beyond the maximum number of 3000, mutually agreed between the two countries for this event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Commenting on the occasion, Pakistan\u2019s High Commissioner Sohail Mahmood said on Tuesday\u00a0that this was a \u201cspecial gesture\u201d by the Pakistan Government in view of the 550th anniversary celebrations\u00a0of Baba Guru Nanak commencing in earnest from this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWe extend profound felicitations to our brothers and sisters celebrating this auspicious occasion and wish all\u00a0Yatrees a spiritually fulfilling yatra\u201d, the Pakistan High Commissioner said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The issuance of pilgrimage visas to Sikh pilgrims is in line with the Government of Pakistan\u2019s efforts for promoting visits to religious shrines and people-to-people interactions.
