{"id":304551,"date":"2018-10-22T20:11:51","date_gmt":"2018-10-22T20:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=304551"},"modified":"2018-10-22T20:11:52","modified_gmt":"2018-10-22T20:11:52","slug":"number-of-crorepatis-up-by-68-in-india-says-cbdt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/number-of-crorepatis-up-by-68-in-india-says-cbdt\/","title":{"rendered":"Number of Crorepatis up by 68% in India, says CBDT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/number-of-crorepatis-up-by-68-in-india-says-cbdt\/cash\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-304552\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-304552 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/cash-300x244.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/10\/cash-300x244.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/10\/cash-517x420.jpg 517w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/10\/cash.jpg 582w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Monday released Direct Tax Statistics which showed constant growth in direct tax-GDP ratio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">According to the data, the number of taxpayers (including corporates, firms, HUFs, etc.) earning above Rs 1 crore per annum has risen to 1,40,139 from 88,649 in the country in the last four years, depicting a growth of about 60 per cent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Whereas, the number of individual taxpayers earning over Rs 1 crore annually has registered a sharp increase from 48,416 to 81,344, which translates into a growth of\u00a068%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">As per CBDT report, \u201cthere is a growth of more than\u00a080%\u00a0in the\u00a0number of returns filed\u00a0in the last four financial years from 3.79 crore in FY 2013-14 (base year) to 6.85 crore in FY 2017-18.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe number of\u00a0persons filing return\u00a0of income has also increased by about\u00a065% during this period from 3.31 crore in FY 2013-14 to 5.44 crore in FY 2017-18,\u201d CBDT said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra said these numbers were a result of putting in a number of legislative, informative and enforcement efforts by the tax department over the last four years.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Monday released Direct Tax Statistics which showed constant growth in direct tax-GDP ratio.
