{"id":304526,"date":"2018-10-22T08:11:20","date_gmt":"2018-10-22T08:11:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=304526"},"modified":"2018-10-22T08:11:20","modified_gmt":"2018-10-22T08:11:20","slug":"400-petrol-pumps-shut-over-delhi-governments-refusal-to-reduce-vat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/400-petrol-pumps-shut-over-delhi-governments-refusal-to-reduce-vat\/","title":{"rendered":"400 petrol pumps shut over Delhi Government&#8217;s Refusal To reduce VAT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-302389 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/diesel-276x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/diesel-276x300.jpg 276w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/diesel-386x420.jpg 386w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/diesel.jpg 467w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A total of 400 petrol pumps along with linked Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) dispensing units in the National Capital, began a day-long strike on Monday in protest against Delhi government\u2019s refusal to reduce VAT on fuels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) said that the Delhi government\u2019s inaction was hampering their business as Delhi has a higher VAT than neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh which attracts people to get fuel at the latter stations that had slashed their fuel prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;This has caused losses ranging between 20-30 per cent, as commuters prefer to get their vehicles filled at a fuel station in the neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,&#8221; DGPA said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Central government on October 4 had announced a cut of\u00a0Rs.\u00a02.50 a litre each for petrol and diesel and urged state governments to match the reduction to provide relief from high fuel prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Gujarat and Maharashtra were among the first states to announce reductions of\u00a0Rs.2.50 per litre each. Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir later announced similar moves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Uttar Pradesh and Haryana were among those which reduced their state taxes on fuel.
