{"id":304079,"date":"2018-10-12T11:36:29","date_gmt":"2018-10-12T11:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=304079"},"modified":"2018-10-12T11:36:29","modified_gmt":"2018-10-12T11:36:29","slug":"sc-seeks-affidavit-from-wb-govt-in-funds-granted-to-durga-puja-committees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/sc-seeks-affidavit-from-wb-govt-in-funds-granted-to-durga-puja-committees\/","title":{"rendered":"SC seeks affidavit from WB govt in funds granted to Durga Puja committees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-299371 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-1-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-1-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-1.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Supreme Court on October 12 refused to stay the West Bengal government&#8217;s order of granting Rs 10,000 each to various Durga Puja committees for celebrations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A SC bench headed by Justice Madan Bhinmrao Lokur and comprising Justice Deepak Gupta issued a notice to the West Bengal government and sought a detailed affidavit within a time frame of six weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that her government will provide Rs 10,000 each to the Puja Committees under the &#8220;community development programme.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">CM Banerjee in September had announced a grant of Rs 28 crores to 28,000 puja committees across the state for the Durga Puja festival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In Kolkata alone there are 3000 Durga Puja committees and 25000 committees across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The CM also announced that puja committees need not to pay the fee to the fire department to obtain a license.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Durga Puja is one of the major festivals of West Bengal and it will begin on October 15.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on October 12 refused to stay the West Bengal government&#8217;s order of granting Rs 10,000 each to various Durga Puja committees for celebrations.
