Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday received the\u00a0United Nation\u2019s highest environmental honour, the \u2018Champions of the Earth Award\u2019 from the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n

After receiving the award Narendra Modi thanked the world community for acknowledging India’s effort to save environment.\u00a0<\/span>
\nHe dedicated the award to the country and its long tradition of co-existing with nature. He Further said that it is a proud moment for India to host such an event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Antonio Guterres said PM Narendra Modi recognised the fact that climate change poses a direct existential threat to us. Guterres thank India for setting an example and he was happy to present the Champions of the earth award to PM Modi.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe world needs bold leadership on #climateaction. I thank India for setting an example and was pleased to present Prime Minister @narendramodi with the Champions of the Earth Award,\u201d Guterres tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n

PM Modi was conferred the award on September 26 by the United Nations (UN) on the sidelines of 73rd UN General Assembly in New York City.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ministry of Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted, \u201cGlobal recognition of India’s leadership in solar power & renewable energy @UN \u2018s highest environmental honour Champions of the Earth Award was conferred on PM @narendramodi by UNSG @antonioguterres in policy leadership category for pioneering work in #InternationalSolarAlliance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

PMO said, \u201cPM @narendramodi getting the @UN \u2018Champions of the Earth Award\u2019 is a fitting recognition of his leadership towards making our world a cleaner place. He was firm that the agreement in Paris has to stay and the world must come together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi has taken numerous steps for the protection of the environment and has always believed that we can conserve our environment and move on the path of development,\u201d PMO added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron were jointly awarded in the \u2018Policy Leadership Category\u2019 for their pioneering work in championing the International Solar Alliance and new areas of levels of cooperation on environmental action.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
