{"id":303232,"date":"2018-09-25T18:02:47","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T18:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=303232"},"modified":"2018-09-25T18:02:47","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T18:02:47","slug":"sc-constitutes-committee-to-look-into-prison-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/sc-constitutes-committee-to-look-into-prison-reforms\/","title":{"rendered":"SC constitutes committee to look into prison reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/supreme-court-permits-reservation-in-promotion-to-sc-st-employees\/supreme-court-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-299685\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-299685 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-2-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-2-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/06\/Supreme-Court-2.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a>The Supreme Court on September 25 constituted a three-member committee to look into jail reforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The committee will be headed by apex court&#8217;s former judge Justice Amitava Roy to look into the aspect of jail reforms across the country and suggest measures to deal with them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A bench headed by Justice M B Lokur said that the panel will look into the issues, including over-crowding, reformatory environment and basic facilities to prisoners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The committee will also look into the various issues concerning women prisoners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Government officials will also assist the committee and also submit a report before the apex court in a stipulated time frame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The apex court bench was hearing a matter relating to inhuman conditions in 1,382 prisons across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The SC had reserved its order on the issue of constituting a committee to deal with issues pertaining in Indian jails and suggest reforms for prisons across the country on Aug 27.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on September 25 constituted a three-member committee to look into jail reforms.
