{"id":302559,"date":"2018-09-12T08:47:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-12T08:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/?p=302559"},"modified":"2018-09-12T08:47:30","modified_gmt":"2018-09-12T08:47:30","slug":"court-grants-bail-to-former-air-force-chief-sp-tyagi-others-in-agustawestland-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/court-grants-bail-to-former-air-force-chief-sp-tyagi-others-in-agustawestland-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Court grants bail to former Air force Chief SP Tyagi, others in AgustaWestland case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/court-grants-bail-to-former-air-force-chief-sp-tyagi-others-in-agustawestland-case\/sp-tyagi\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-302562\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-302562 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/tehelka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/sp-tyagi-300x237.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/sp-tyagi-300x237.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/sp-tyagi-532x420.jpg 532w, https:\/\/tehelka.com\/media\/2018\/09\/sp-tyagi.jpg 626w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a>A Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to former Air force Chief SP Tyagi and others in a money laundering case related to the Rs 3600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Special judge Arvind Kumar granted bail to Tyagi and others, involved in the case and asked them to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety of the like amount.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The bail was granted after they appeared before the court in pursuance to the summons issued against them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">On July 24, the court had summoned former AgustaWestland and Finmeccanica directors Giuseppe Orsi and Bruno Spagnolini, Tyagi and others as accused in the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Enforcement Directorate\u00a0(ED) filed a supplementary charge sheet in the chopper scam against 34 individuals, including Tyagi, his two cousins,\u00a0lawyer Gautam Khaitan and Italians\u00a0Carlo Gerosa and Guido Haschke.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The court had passed directions after taking cognizance of the charge sheet, which mentions money laundering to the tune of around 28 million euros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The ED, in its charge sheet, has alleged that money was laundered through manifold foreign companies which were used as fronts to park alleged kickbacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">India had cancelled a contract on 1st\u00a0January 2014 with Finmeccanica&#8217;s British subsidiary AgustaWestland for supplying 12 AW-101 VVIP choppers to the IAF, over the alleged breach of contractual obligations and on charges of kickbacks of Rs 423 crore paid by it to secure the deal.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to former Air force Chief SP Tyagi and others in a money laundering case related to the Rs 3600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal.
